I regularly work with people who are experiencing direct Gnosis in their dreams which includes receiving profound Gnostic symbols & themes in their dreams. Many people have not heard of the terms ‘Gnosis’ and ‘Gnosticism, so I will begin by providing a brief description of both.

Gnosis – from ancient Greek meaning ‘knowledge’ or ‘insight’ referring to a profound direct experience in one’s life through inner revelation and/or mystical experience. ‘Dream Gnosis’ therefore refers to dreams that contain profound knowledge & insights about the Soul, this world and The Greater Reality.

Gnosticism – refers to a diverse collection of ancient religious and philosophical movements flourishing in the 2nd century that emphasised Gnosis as the goal of inner spiritual/religious practice. The aim of Gnosticism is to open the individual up to receive Gnosis which can help reveal the greater truth of who we are as well as our origins.

The early Gnostics viewed dreams and extraordinary dream states as profound ways to receive Gnosis. For someone who works with dreams daily, I am privileged to witness genuine Gnosis through Spiritually Guided Dreamwork. To this day I continue to be surprised as to why Dream Gnosis is hardly practiced across the world. I do realise though, that part of the answer lies in how undervalued dreams are in the modern world, both in psychology and in spiritual/religious practices. In more positive news, recently there has been a growing interest in Gnosis and Gnosticism throughout the world. This rekindled interest has been spurred on in part by people becoming increasingly disillusioned by the chaotic state of the outer world and from this, seeking answers from within themselves.

Dream Gnosis And Gnosticism

Can Gnosis Really Appear In The Dreams Of Modern Dreamers?

The short answer is ‘Yes’ and I am privileged to witness genuine Gnosis in my dreamwork practice. The greatest challenge of identifying genuine Dream Gnosis is being able to accurately interpret the dream symbols and narratives within the dream so that we can understand the wisdom and insights being offered to us. Often the dreamer will experience numinosity (a heightened state) from the dream, but will not be clear of the dream’s meaning. This is where I can be helpful by providing guidance on the important meanings contained within the dream.

True Dream Gnosis is a very powerful experience. There is no greater privilege than receiving deep insights, wisdom and revelations from our Soul about who we really are and why we have come into this life. But with this privilege comes the great challenges of not becoming disorientated, egotistical or over-spiritual. Part of the teaching of Dream Gnosis is to ensure we remain grounded and humble in this profound inner work.

For people in today’s world who are drawn to Gnosis and Gnosticism, I would encourage you to focus on distinguishing between the two; they are not the same thing. Gnosis is purely related to profound knowledge and wisdom being made available to us by way of direct experience. Gnosis has always been experienced by individuals throughout human history and always will be. Gnosticism on the other hand, offers various spiritual or religious frameworks centred around the principle of Gnosis. While studying Gnosticism has the potential to offer profound insights, Carl Jung discovered that while it is important to learn from the past, it is vital for our own growth and evolution to understand that Gnosis is deeply connected with the Collective Unconscious. Like many things in this world, the Collective Unconscious is a dynamic field that changes over time and in the Age Of Aquarius that we live in today, Dream Gnosis is revealing new symbols, revelations and insights.

Whoever searches
must continue to search
until they find.
When they find,
they will be disturbed;
and being disturbed, they will marvel
and will reign over All.
