Authentic dreamwork is never guesswork, but looking at internet content in today’s world, this is largely what is has become. It is true that learning dream symbolism and dream narrative is a difficult path, but that is no excuse for those who profess to be authorities on interpretation and have not done the intensive study and personal commitment required. Also, because of the challenges of accurately understanding dream symbolism and their associated themes, there is also a popular notion today that dreams can have many valid interpretations. This is simply not the case and is a lazy way of dealing with the complexities and challenges of authentic dreamwork.

When you devote yourself to working with you dreams, it eventually becomes undeniably clear that the source of dreams is a greater wisdom than our own ego-based wisdom – that source being the Transpersonal Self or Soul. With this in mind, consider the following example regarding misinterpreting communication. If we regularly misinterpret the communication of our loved-ones/friends/work colleagues, the relationship between us will inevitably suffer and become increasingly distant. This also applies to dream interpretation. To truly discover the meaning our dreams, strengthens the relationship between ego and Soul. But to regularly misinterpret the communication with our Soul, takes us further away from our true nature and identity.

One of the important aspects of Spiritual Psychology is to provide a knowledge-based spiritual foundation with each dreamwork session. This means that over time, each person can become increasingly capable of interpreting their own dreams. This spiritual foundation is grounded in the study of dream symbolism and narrative over human history, as well as the study of the evolution of spirituality and consciousness. Dreams will often point the way as to what the individual needs to study and my role as guide is to help identify those study areas.

The Harm Caused By Misinterpreting Dreams

I do not want to appear overly negative about a number of common methods being promoted today to interpret dreams, but given the sacredness and vital role that dreams have in our own spiritual growth and development, I feel it is important for people to understand the flaws and limitations of these methods.

Dream Dictionaries

  • Dream dictionaries often do not acknowledge the Transpersonal/Spiritual source of our dreams, with most dictionaries using a simplistic reductive approach in their attempt to understand the vastness of dream symbolism and narrative.

  • Dream dictionaries have no knowledge of the dreamer’s own psyche (Soul), which is vital for accurate interpretation.

  • Dream dictionaries do not understand the dynamic nature of dream symbolism. Dream symbols are dynamic by nature, meaning they can change and evolve over time within the individual. We see this occurring often when dream symbols and characters reappear in changed form in the future dreams of the individual.

A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) Dream Interpreters

A.I. dream interpreters are now the most frequently used method used by people to interpret their dreams. While A.I has an amazing ability to work through and consolidate vast amounts of data and recognise patterns in that data, A.I. dream interpreters can share the same weaknesses as dream dictionaries.

There is also a deep understanding in Spiritual Psychology that we all have a fundamental need for human & spiritual connection. In Spiritually Guided Dreamwork, there is the understanding that we benefit immensely if we have good people in our lives who understand and witness our spiritual journey and evolution. As a dream guide, I am privileged to witness the growth and conscious evolution of the people I work with. The witnessing role is two-way and I myself have benefited immensely over the years from the good people I work with who witness and understand my own spiritual journey.

Intuitives & Clairvoyants

There are many gifted intuitives and clairvoyants in the world. I know this because I have worked with quite a few over the years. But there is a growing trend globally of intuitives and clairvoyants offering dream interpretation as one of their services. I feel it is important to understand that intuition and clairvoyance are quite different to the world of authentic dream interpretation.

An authentic intuitive/clairvoyant has the gift of accessing individual and collective fields. Dreams themselves are most often unique, personal narratives that require knowledge of the individual and the study of dream symbolism and collective narratives over the course of human history. When the human race learns to read the language of symbolism, a great veil will fall from the eyes of men. They shall then know truth and, more than that, they shall realise that from the beginning truth has been in the world unrecognized...
