Spiritual Psychology And Dreams

Spiritual Psychology is an evolving field. It is a psychology that integrates spiritual, mystical and transcendent experiences into modern psychology, focusing on consciousness, self-actualisation and spiritual development. Spiritual Psychology openly acknowledges that within each of us there is something greater than just the physical mind when it comes to consciousness; there is a Transcendent-Self or Soul that we are deeply connected to. Strengthening our understanding of this Transcendent-Self and forging a stronger connection with it, is a key focus of Spiritual Psychology.

What also sets Spiritual Psychology apart is the understanding that each of us has not just a physical DNA blueprint that unfolds over our lifetime, but that we also have a spiritual/psychological blueprint, a goal for the Soul’s development in this life. This blueprint guides an individual’s development towards psychological and spiritual wholeness over the course of their lifetime. This spiritual blueprint in Jungian psychology is called individuation. Authentic dreamwork allows us to track the soul’s progression in this life. This includes dreams that show us our past trauma, how we may be stuck in our lives, our successes and also the challenges that we will need to overcome in the future.

The unfolding of this spiritual/psychological blueprint is a dynamic process that manifests through dreams, visions and significant life events, including personal crises, that force the ego to look inward and engage with the deeper layers of psyche, the Unconscious. By paying attention to these internal communications, a person moves increasingly closer to realising their unique, inborn potential.

My overall approach to dreamwork is based on 3 psychologies that are all deeply related to each other in their spiritual/transpersonal based origins. Those being Jungian Psychology, Depth Psychology and Transpersonal Psychology. Of these 3, Jungian Psychology is the foundation of my dreamwork practice because it places immense importance on dreams as the clearest source of communication between our Souls and our waking self, or our egoic existence.

Dreamwork should never be guesswork, nor should it be based purely on an individual’s personal intuition, no matter how profound that intuition is. Jungian Psychology has been studying and mapping dreams for over one hundred years. Tens of thousands of dreams have been studied and published over this time so that a deeper understanding of dreams and their profound importance has been established.

Over my ten plus years of working with dreams, I have worked with thousands of dreams, both my own and the people I work closely with. Looking today at the various approaches used to interpret dreams including modern psychology, dream dictionaries and A.I. Interpreters, I have an unwavering certainty that dreamwork based on Spiritual Psychology, is the way to discover the true meaning of our dreams and forge an ever-stronger connection to our Soul or Higher Self.

Dreams are the guiding words of the Soul. Can I not love my dreams and make their mysterious images the subject of my reflections by day?
